Hans Goesaert (ir., PhD) is a European and Belgian Patent Attorney and a registered UPC Representative at De Clercq & Partners with broad experience in patent prosecution, opposition and appeal proceedings, and strategic IP advisory work across life sciences, chemistry and engineering. He advises innovative companies on the protection, development and optimisation of patent portfolios.
Hans holds a Master’s degree in Bio-engineering Sciences and a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences from KU Leuven. His doctoral research focused on food and microbial technology and was followed by several years of postdoctoral research. Prior to joining De Clercq & Partners in 2015, he gained experience in technology transfer and private practice. He qualified as a European and Belgian Patent Attorney and is registered as a UPC Representative.
Hans’s technical expertise spans a wide range of technologies, including biotechnology, biochemistry, food technology, chemical engineering and processing, catalyst technology, materials science, pharmacology and mechanical engineering. He is frequently involved in freedom-to-operate analyses, IP due diligence, SPC-related matters, patent landscape studies and long-term portfolio strategy for research-driven companies.
In addition to his client work, Hans is actively involved in the IP community. He is a co-author of authoritative publications on European supplementary protection certificates and is recognised for his analytical approach and practical mindset. His work has been acknowledged for its technical depth and strategic insight.
