UPC Representative and European Patent Attorney

Jeff Gyi (PhD) is a European Patent Attorney and a registered UPC Representative at De Clercq & Partners with broad experience in patent prosecution, opposition and appeal proceedings and strategic IP advisory work across mechanical engineering, software, chemistry and life sciences technologies. He advises innovative companies on the protection and development of complex patent portfolios. 

Jeff holds degrees in Biochemistry and Chemistry from the University of Sheffield and a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Manchester, where his research focused on biophysics in medicinal chemistry. He further gained postdoctoral experience in biophysical molecular modelling, systems and programming at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research in London. This multidisciplinary academic background enables him to bridge scientific depth with practical patent strategy. He joined De Clercq & Partners in 2002 and qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2010. Jeff’s technical expertise spans a wide range of technologies, including mechanical engineering, medical and hospital technologies, software and machine learning, robotics, wearables, diagnostics, electronics and chemistry-related inventions. He regularly supports clients active in engineering, healthcare, consumer products, transport and industrial sectors. 

Alongside his client work, Jeff regularly contributes to professional publications and shares his expertise in trainings. He is recognised for his analytical mindset, technical versatility and ability to translate complex inventions into clear and robust patent protection strategies. His work has been consistently acknowledged by leading international legal directories.
