UPC Representative, Attorney at Law and Patent Litigation Expert
Founder of Altius De Clercq
Philippe de Jong is a patent litigation expert specialising in intellectual property disputes involving patents, plant variety rights and parallel import matters. He advises and represents clients in disputes that combine IP enforcement, EU law and Belgian regulatory frameworks. In particular, his work centres on the agri-food sector.
His approach is pragmatic and strategy-driven. Philippe guides clients through technically and procedurally complex disputes. He develops clear and commercially grounded litigation and enforcement strategies. From the outset of a dispute, he advises on risk assessment, forum selection and the coordination of parallel proceedings. As a result, clients benefit from efficient and coherent decision-making.
Alongside his litigation practice, Philippe is actively involved in legal scholarship and the development of intellectual property law. He has acted as a consultant to the EU Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO). Moreover, he regularly speaks at industry and academic conferences. He also publishes extensively on patent law, plant variety protection and EU regulatory matters. In addition, he co-authors the three-yearly overview of Belgian patent case law together with Christophe Ronse and Kirian Claeyé. The sixth edition is scheduled for publication in 2026.
Philippe’s work is consistently recognised by leading legal directories. They highlight his analytical precision, practical mindset and ability to translate complex legal and technical issues into clear strategic advice aligned with clients’ commercial objectives.
